Advanced Drama at Ramirez Intermediate
Activities:
Activites will focus on students performing in front of an audience (classroom of students) and will not require preparation (improvisation). Activities will include: pantomime, mimic, skits, and impersonations. Students
will be required to participate in these activities and will be graded according to their effort, energy, and acting ability. Before each activity and throughout the evaluation process, students are shown techniques to improve their
performance, activities are modeled, and students are informed about grading criteria.
Plot Structure:
Students will read famous plays and demonstarte their knowledge of plot structure.
1) exposition (setting & characters), 2) rising action (problem/goal) & foreshadowing (hint of climax), 3) climax (problem solved or not solved/ goal achieved or not) & falling action, and 4) resolution (effects of climax, lesson or theme, happily ever after or not). Students must memorize the order of the four main plot components above (
falling action, which is after the climax is often not included in the episodes) Students will demonstrate their knowledge of plot stucture using plot structure worksheets and during their Dramatic Skit Final Grade at the end of Trimester 1.
Vocabulary:
Students will be required to memorize and show that they know and understand the meanings of Drama of Drama terms(found on website).
Grades/Rubric:
Students are graded on particpation, believability, performance, and inflection. Each performance will
be graded from a rubric that is attached to my page. Rubrics will be posted when the assignemnts are given. Students are expected to read all directions during assignments and understand the rubric of how they will be graded. Students in Advanced Drama will be required to memorized all skits and performances!
Particpation:
Students will be given numerous assignments that are participation grade based. Studnets must participate, show
respect toward other students and the teacher, and sit quietly while other peform inorder to recieve full particpation points on assignments. Any student who is disrespectful or cannot keep their body/language undercontrol will
receive less points or may result in a 0 on a assignment. Any student who leaves the MPR or classroom without permission will be given an automatic detention and possible loss of role. You must be at are given location at all times. If you memorized your lines faster than your group, this does not give you the opportunity to sit down and not particpate while you wait for others to catch up.
Deadlines: Studnets will be given deadlines to meet in memorzing their lines for skits and perofrmances. If the dealines are not met, students grade's will reflect this and may result in the loss of a lead role or performing at all. Altyernative writing assignments will be given.
Citizenship:
At the end of each trimester studnets are given a citizenship grade. To recieve an outstanding citizenship grade students must follow all classroom and MPR rules and procedures, show respect toward others, participate, and support his or her fellow classmates. Studnets may receive a Satisfactory citizenship grade if their are gvien warnings, or a detention or parent phone call is made. Studnets may also receive a Needs imporvement grade if consistent detentions or parent phone calls are made. Finally a U in citizenship results in removal from class and disrespect on all levels. Students who receive a N or U in citizenship grade will result in probabtion from all drama field trips and
activities.
Extra Credit:
Anytime students volunteer to
perform or memorize their lines for their performance, they can earn extra
credit. 5 points for volunteering and10 points for memorizing.
Rules:
Rules are discussed & posted in class.
1. Respect every student in the class.
2. No eating or drinking in class.
3. You must participate and give me 100% every performance.
4. Be ready to learn and participate everyday.
5. No disruptive behavior or shouting out comments during skits and perofrmances.
6. Stay on task and in your seat.
7. Praise your peers.
8. Cell Phones and I-pods are not allowed unless given permission
Students who have disruptive behavior or do not stay on task WILL NOT PERFORM!

Each student will be expected to show Perseverance-Respect-Integrity-Determination-Excellence. Students should
demonstrate PRIDE for themselves, their classmates, and their school.
DisciplinePolicy:
Students will be given one verbal warning; next students will receive a note in their planner
stating the behavior that they have displayed in class. They must have a parentsignature the following day or a detention will be given and a phone call home. If a student is rude or defiant in class they may be sent to ACP or given a detention for their actions. Students will not be able to perform or participate in plays if they are rude disrespectful or defiant in anyway!
Probabtion: Any student who looses a role due to behavior or does not meet the 3.0 grade requirement will be placed on a 30-day probabtion. If a students is placed on probation, he or she may not particpate in any field trips, parties, or performances.
Drama Club: My Advanced Drama class will hold all of our club meetings throughout the year. The officers will be chosen at the end of August during our Monologues performances. Positions will be rewarded based on performance.
